RESEARCH INTEREST

  • Capacitive electrical energy storage (supercapacitor): pore/electrode level modeling of supercapacitors under equilibrium and dynamics state.

  • Interfacial phenomena: electrokinetic flow, electrical double layers (EDLs)

  • Computational methods: molecular dynamics (MD), finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD).

Investigated fluids transport in nanoscale systems. Specially,

  • Electrokinetic flow manipulated by soft maters, with applications in drug delivery, separation etc.

  • Nano liquids transported in nanoporous materials, with applications on energy storage, desalination of sea water etc.

Research Assistant | Clemson University, USA | 08/2009 – 08/2014

  • Investigated pore-size dependency of capacitance of supercapacitor; opened new directions to enhance supercapacitors energy density. (Publication #3).

  • Studied the thermodynamic charge storage limits at sub-nanometer pores; provided new insights on limiting factors to improve energy density of supercapacitors. (Publication #2).

  • Investigated charging dynamics process of nanopores; developed governing law for charging process. (Publication #1).

  • Explored fluid dynamics in electrokinetics flow using a combination of CFD and MD simulations; resolved long-hold misunderstanding towards viscosity of interfacial fluids. (Publication #4).

  • Mentored two undergraduate and one graduate students on atomistic modeling


INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

Senior Optimization Consultant | CentralPlas LLC | 10/2015 – 06/2016

CentralPlas LLC is a global plastic manufacture, producing environment friendly and energy efficient plastic extrusion products.

As Senior Optimization Consultant, I identified, designed and implemented key improvement projects such as:

  • Modeled thermal deformation of moving plastic boards under partition temperature zones.

  • Studied and solved traction induced products diverging.

Co-Founder & Principle Investigator | Jun He LLC | 01/2015 – 09/2015

Jun He LLC is a consultant firm, provides energy efficient improvement & saving consulting services.

As Principle Investigator, I identified, designed and solved consulting challenges such as:

  • Performed marketing analysis on commercialization of supercapacitors.

  • Provided building modeling to analyze energy consumption, utility bill and life cycle cost of HVAC system for customers.
